Brazil. Minas Gerais: Rio Preto, Serra da Caveira d’Anta, Fazenda da Tiririca, 21°58′83″S, 43°56′08″W, campo rupestre, 15 Nov 2003 (fl), F. R. Salimena, P. H. Nobre & O. J. B. Neto 1268 (holotype: SPF; isotype: CESJ).
Additional specimens examined. BRAZIL. Minas Gerais: Rio Preto, Funil, Serra da Caveira d’Anta, arredores da fazenda Tiririca, campo rupestre, 22 Feb 2004 (fl, fr), Assis et al. 1000 (CESJ, NY, SPF); 24 Apr 2004 (fr), Antunes et al. 93 (CESJ, SPF); without locality, s.d. (fl), Saint-Hilaire C.74 (P). Rio de Janeiro: Petrópolis, 3 Feb 1880 (fl), Glaziou 12121 (B, C, K, P) [questionable locality].
Miscellaneous information:
Saint-Hilaire C.74 and Glaziou 12121 are syntypes of Ocotea elegans Mez. Assis & Mello-Silva state that they do not fit the circumscription of that species, citing an (at that time) unpublished paper as reference: "(L. C. S. Assis & R. Mello-Silva, in prep.)"
