Borbonia Peruviana [...]. Joseph. Juss. Herb. Je n'ai vue de ce Laurier, dans l'herbier de M. de Jussieu, que des rameaus feuillés, dépurvus de fructification. [...] On le nomme, au Pérou, arbre de la Canelle.

Miscellaneous information:
Kurz (2000, Mitt. Inst. Allg. Bot. Hamb.) did not see the type in P. Probably for that reason he erroneously treated this name as a synonym of Licaria triandra. The type is, however, preserved in the Jussieu herbarium. Rohwer (1986) had seen this specimen, which is sterile but smelling strongly like Cinnamon. At that time he was unable to place this species, but later he realized that it was an Ocotea of the Dendrodaphne group.
