SUMMARY
Trees. Leaves alternate, penninerved. Inflorescences botryoid to thyrsoid, axillary to leaves or to cataphylls at the base of the new growth. Flowers trimerous, bisexual. Tepals 6, equal. Fertile stamens 9, with long, pubescent filaments. Anthers in the two outer staminal whorls (apical-)introrse, with 2 to 4 pollen sacs, in the third staminal whorl (apical-)extrorse, with 2 pollen sacs. Filaments of the third staminal whorl fused, each with a pair of glands (= 6 glands inserted on the filament tube). Staminodes (whorl IV) absent (or forming part of the filament tube?). Ovary superior in a small receptacle, completely enclosed in the filament tube. Fruit ellipsoid, with a double-rimmed cupule and persistent tepals and filament bases.
