Nees explicitely excluded the synonyms cited under "Laurus cinnamomum" by Loureiro, therefore the name is legitimate. It is debatable whether the epithet should be spelt "loureirii" (as in the original publication) or "loureiroi" (in accordance with Art. 60.11 of the ICBN). On the one hand the name "Loureiro" usually would not be considered to have a well-established latinized form, on the other Nees wrote "... a Loureirio additum ...", showing that he latinized the name deliberately to "Loureirius".
