Miscellaneous information:
The basionym, Laurus martinicensis Jacq., currently cannot be identified with certainty. Meisner interpreted it in the sense of a species that is most likely a synonym of Ocotea aciphylla. The fragments in the Meissner herbarium in NY (NY 00355696) may be from the holotype that Meissner still had seen. Jacquin's figure shows a single leaf that does not allow to tell which species it is, and the type in W apparently has been lost in World War 2.
