Miscellaneous information:
Rohwer (1986) placed this name in the synonymy of Ocotea calophylla. That name, however, is illegitimate, because it was based on Pleurothyrium velutinum Meissn., so that Mez should have called the species Ocotea velutina. Now, however the epithet "velutina" is no longer available, because Rohwer (1986) made the combination Ocotea velutina (Nees) Rohwer, based on Oreodaphne velutina Nees.
