Based on Laurus multiglandulosa Ruiz & Pavon. Treated as illegitimate by Rohwer (1986), because he assumed that the names by Ruiz & Pavon had not been validly published before 1955, and Oreodaphne poeppigiana Nees (1836) was cited in synonymy. However, the plates by Ruiz & Pavón, published between 1804 and 1830, show sufficient detail to be considered valid publications. It remains to be checked, however, if and how this species can be separated from Ocotea floribunda.
