Venezuela, Amazonas, just S of camp 3, Cerro de la Neblina, 700 m, 14-16 Nov 1957: Maguire 42059 (holotype NY). Paratypes: Venezuela, Amazonas, at NW base of Cerro Yapacana, Río Orinoco: Maguire 36585. Brazil, Amazonas, Manaus, Estrada do Aleixo: Ducke 1737 (F, K, NY, RB, US).
Miscellaneous information:
Rohwer (1986) had not seen the Maguire specimens. He placed this species in the synonymy of Ocotea subrutilans Mez based on the Ducke paratype only, but later doubted this placement.
