Miscellaneous information:
As Wright used species numbers rather than collection numbers, it is always uncertain if collections with the same number are really from the same tree or not.
When Grisebach (Pl. Wright. 187. 1860) published the name Phoebe triplinervis, it was legitimate for this species. Mez (Jahrb. Königl. Bot. Gart. Berlin 5: 215. 1889), however, preferred to use the same name for a closely related species based on a different type, first described as Laurus triplinervis by Ruiz & Pavón (1804–1813). Under the current rules of nomenclature (McNeill & al., 2012), the combination made by Mez was a younger homonym and thus illegitimate, as was the new name Phoebe grisebachiana created by Mez for this species (superfluous renaming). Both of these species were transferred to Aiouea by Rohde et al. (2017), and there is a still older name (Laurus montana) available for the other entity (which is therefore called Aiouea montana). It still would be correct according to the Code to call the species discussed here Aiouea triplinervis. However, this would create considerable confusion, because the other, far more frequent and widespread species has been known as Cinnamomum triplinerve (Ruiz & Pav.) Kosterm. for several decades. Therefore, Rohwer (in Rohde et al. 2017) preferred to take up the nomen novum created by Lorea-Hernández (1997) for this species.
